Jimmy
Age: 7Class: 2Dreamjob: Pilot
The organization found Jimmy with a woman (“Good Samaritan”) who had been taking care of him since his mother had passed away. He was admitted to Kikatiti in 2010. The social workers were able to track down his father, and now Jimmy is spending the holidays with him. He is very grateful to the organization because it helps him achieve his dreams, and he has learned here that it is good to help other people.
Bailey
Age: 13Class: 7Dreamjob: Doctor
Bailey lived with her very old grandmother in impoverished circumstances. When the organization met the two, the grandma said that Bailey was an orphan. However, the social workers later found out that both parents are still alive but had separated, and the mother is newly married and therefore left Bailey with grandma. She came to Kikatiti when she was four years old. In the meantime, contact has been made with her father and aunt, with whom she also spends the holidays. She would also like to contact her mother, but this has not been possible, but the social workers keep trying.
Lauralyn
Age: 14Class: 7Dreamjob: Lawyer
Initially, Lauralyn was placed with another organization that takes care of street children. However, since she was very young, the organization asked Happy Watoto Home if they had a vacancy. At the age of five, Lauralyn came to Kikatiti. Her parents are separated, and as a child, she had to beg on the streets all day long. She is now in the 7th grade in Ngorika and visits her mother during the holidays. Since she lives in another region, Lauralyn spends the shorter holidays with her “foster family” – a family that takes care of her and is part of the organization.
Kali
Age: 14Class: 7Dreamjob: Astronaut
An organization found Kali on the street with her cousin. The family had no fixed home and begged on the streets for a living. The organization has arranged that the two come to the Happy Watoto home. Luckily our social workers were able to find the parents, and during the long holidays, they both spend time with them. They stay in the Good Hope Centre during the shorter holidays because the family lives too far away.
Isabelle
Age: 9Class: 3Dreamjob: Doctor
Isabelle’s mother was a housemaid and had an affair with the man she worked for. She became pregnant with Isabelle, but the father did not accept the child as his. Her mother gave her to Kikatiti and now lives in Dar es Salaam. Isabelle spends her holidays with her grandmother in Moshi.
Jaylon
Age: 7Class: 2Dreamjob: Doctor
Jaylon’s mother was only 15 years old when he was born. The father is unknown and the mother has no permanent address. At the age of 3, Jaylon came to Kikatiti. He no longer has any contact with his mother. He spends his holidays with his aunt.
Jake
Age: 10Class: 4Dreamjob: Doctor
Jake was placed in the “Babyhome” just three days after birth. His father was married to another woman, and they also had a child together. When Jake’s mother found this out, she placed Jake in the home. The father died when Jake was one year old. There was no longer any contact with the mother, so Jake came to Kikatiti from the “Babyhome” when he was only three years old. After a year or so, our social workers were able to locate the mother. Contact was slowly reestablished so that Jake sometimes spends the holidays with her. However, sometimes during the holidays, he would rather stay at the Happy Watoto home than go home.
Cody
Age: 14Class: 7Dreamjob: Engineer
Cody’s parents are separated, and he lived with his mother and two siblings in very poor circumstances. His sister Tara also lived at the Happy Watoto Home but is now in secondary school and continues to be supported by our organization.
Emelia
Age: 14Class: 7Dreamjob: Teacher
Emelia was placed in a church by her mother the day after she was born. A man from the church took her in and, to this day, is the one who takes care of her during the holidays. Emelia would love to meet her biological parents, but unfortunately, nothing is known about them.
Simeon
Age: 7Class: 2Dreamjob: Pilot
Simeon has five siblings, and his parents are separated. Before he came to Kikatiti, he lived with his mother and grandmother under poor conditions until he was three years old. One of his siblings already has a child who is currently in the pre-unit class. So Simeon is only two years older than his niece. He spends his holidays at home with his family.
